About St. Nicholas’ and Fr. Jim

St. Nicholas’ is an inclusive, mainstream parish in the Diocese of Northwest Texas. We are a growing congregation, with members of all ages, both married and single. Most of us are Episcopalians by choice, having either been raised in another Christian denomination or coming to Christian faith at St. Nick’s.
We are also an active Church whose Mission Statement calls us to lead a life of faith and of service. Outreach is a central part of our witness to the Christian faith–as are our worship, study and growth in the faith. We also welcome seekers and those who need a quiet place for worship and personal prayer. We will not nag you.
St. Nicholas’ is also a ‘continuing Episcopal Parish’, having lived through a divisive time and a split in 2005. The result of this is a congregation of highly committed, deeply involved, and very caring people who are here for the long haul, and who are dedicated to the mission of St. Nicholas’ and of the Episcopal Church.
St Nick’s is located at 4000 W. Loop 250 N. in Midland, Texas. Our phone number is (432) 694-8856, we can be reached by e-mail at stnicks@stnicksmt.org and our website is www.stnicksmt.org.

I am Fr. Jim Liggett, and I became Rector of St. Nicholas’ in September of 2007, after serving for almost 14 years as Rector of St. Mary’s in Big Spring. I was born in Kansas and grew up in the southern half of the Central Time Zone. I received degrees from the University of Houston (Philosophy, 1971) and the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass. (Divinity, 1977). I have served churches in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Winfield and Wellington Kansas and, before coming to Texas, Garden City, Kansas. I was Ordained in 1977, the same year Kathleen and I were married. Our son, Will, was born in 1985, is a graduate of the The University of the South at Sewanee, TN and is presently working in Austin. Kathleen is a retired public school teacher and public librarian.
