We are looking at doing some advertising on local television. As a part of that, I’m curious about what you think of the idea, and about what you watch on television, and what you guess people who might be interested in St. Nick’s watch on TV.
We are definitely going to sponsor the PBS series God in America this Fall; but we are also thinking about cable and local network affiliates. All of this is still in process, and we’re not committed to doing anything. Still, we have something special here, and we need to let Midland know about it. Let me know what you think.
Honestly, we don’t watch television at home — we haven’t cable — but I don’t think any extra money should be put into PBS where we would most likely be “preaching to the choir.”
Please, don’t misunderstand; I think sponsoring the God in America series sounds very interesting and worthwhile.
Misty, You’ve raised an important point.
The funds for the sponsorhip of God In America are NOT coming from the parish budget. Those funds are coming from individual parishioners, over and above their regular pledges.
It is our hope that folks who watch that series may realize that St. Nick’s is a more open-minded church than they might be accustomed to. For those who’ve been wishing for such a church, this sponsorship may encourage them to visit us. Hope so anyway!
We don t watch television that isn’t prerecorded so we “skip” the commercials.
