Service Times Note

For a number of reasons, including the new Godly Play program on Sunday morning, we are going to change the 11:30 AM service to 5:30 PM on Sunday evenings, beginning September 5th. Darryl Knapp will be overseeing the music, and Doña Josie will be the usual Celebrant, although all of us will participate from time to time. We hope this change will both give us more time on Sunday morning, and allow us to try some less formal and more varied worship. When it is needed, the service will be bi-lingual.

Also, the Vestry and Rector are talking about the best time for our Sunday Morning service. We would like to hear from as many of you as possible on the idea of moving the time to 9:30 or 10:00 AM. We know that we can’t make everyone happy with this one, but we do want to do the best thing for the parish. Let us know what you think.

I am all for a 10 am service since we will be having a 5:30pm service now.

I love the 9:00 time! The idea of a 5:30 Sunday afternoon is good. It worked for the HT folks at one time and it does allow for more time after the 9:00 service, if we continue that time slot.

Although I know there are folks who wish our main morning service were a little later, I think 9am is “just right”. And with Sunday School after that, it will be close to 11:30 when we’re finished — and the brunch crowd will already be forming at the Wall Street Bar and Grill……………… (smile)

I like the idea of 10:00 and I think some of our older folks might like it too, since it gives a little more margin for getting up!! :)

  5. Nancy Hart says:

I think that 9 am & 5:30 pm is a great compromise. Count me in for the 5:30. I always liked that time at HT.

  6. Harris Kerr says:

Did not see leaving it at 9AM as an option, but I like the 9AM service time.

I am glad to see we are adding the 5:30PM service. I think we will pick up attendance from those who like a less formal service, or are out of town Sunday morning.

I favor a move to 10 or even 10:30. That is a more traditional time for a church service and I think we have lost many people who simply will not attend that early a service. I think that the 5:30 will pick up more people for the same reason, 9am is too early.

Also I want to add that I know that some people are not comfortable posting on a blog. If that is you and you have an opinion then find your favorite vestry member and voice your opinion. We are considering moving the church time for the benefit of you our members, we the vestry are only guessing if we don’t receive valuable input from you our parishioners.

I would attend more frequently if the service were moved to 10:00. I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds herself rolling out of bed between 8:30 and 9:00 on many Sunday mornings.

Opps! Seems I posted my vote in the wrong place. I am very much for a 9:30 or 10 am service. Those of us who sing in the choir have to be at the church at 8:10 am, which some Sundays are just too early. I know most of us probably have to be at work at 8am during the week but I would like not to have to rush on weekend mornings. Also, it seems the pews fill up quite a bit after the choir has processed into the choir loft.

Although I like 9 o’clock, I would not object to 9:30. I would not want it any later than that. Corby

Did anybody else notice all of the late folks this morning? I myself barely made it.

  12. Kathy White says:

Hooray for compromise and unity of Spirit on the new times for worship! Thank you!!
I sincerely appreciate the idea of the later 5:30 service for it’s casual, contemporary, evening collect type of service!
One of my Qigong participants that makes the drive from Odessa to be here at 4pm Sunday Qigong is glad for the opportunity to go right on into a worship service after we have been stilling our minds and hearts through Qigong class.

Thanks everyone for your willingness to try new and different ideas!

So far, so good with 9:30. We seem to be more comfortable and still get out at a reasonable time.
